MORE POWER/MODERN METAL ESP LTD EC-1000T ALNICO PROII
« on: June 21, 2012, 04:19:09 PM »
Hi guys, I just want to thank you all help me to select my pickups for my ESP SVII. Well now I have a beatiful full thickness (A basic les paul standard) ESP LTD EC-1000T, 22 jumbo frets, mahogany body and neck, flamed maple top, rosewood fretboard.

This guitar came with SD alnico pro II set, vey good sound, balanced and nice tone, but I am into more modern metal (evergrey band as reference) and I want more power, my tuning is drop C, I was thinking in actives but I think would kill the wood capabilities and the tone of this guitar.

My gear is a 5150 scrip logo head tru a mesa 4x12 cabinet, basically the lead chanel, no boost, only guitar and amp. I appreciate recommendations for this beauty.

If you were thinking in actives you might want to check out the Black Hawks as they were made to be a good alternative to active pups. If you're looking for super tightness and fast bass response I think the Aftermath or the Painkiller will suit you.

I think a Miracle Man would work pretty well for this.

I have a Les Paul with the Painkiller in it.  I use D standard, and drop C at the moment.   It sounds pretty killer to me.

Interesting, TIM and some guys in the forum recommend paikillers for my ESP SVII alder guitar neck tru. What about aftermaths in a les paul? Miracle man? what is more modern sounding from those?

For me, Painkiller all the way.  Especially with a Rosewood fingerboard.  If Tim recommended the PK, you'll probably get your boogie on with that.  Define what is modern?  The PK is really tight and aggressive.  Really in your face, and it cuts through when mixed with a full band.  Aftermath is going to be tighter, with less meat/ass to it, and slightly darker in tone (meaning less treble).  Can't speak much of the MM.  From the clips I have heard of it, not my cup of tea.

They will probably both work quite well. I'd half-jokingly say it's maybe a bit of question if you prefer Zakk Wylde tone (MM) over Mark Tremonti (PK). ;-)

What a dillema, MM sounds EMGish tone and tremonty more gibson 500tish tone. I liked both, probably I would go for MMs due I want to use the painkillers in my ESP SV alder guitar.
