Thread number 2!
Title says all. Just wondering what would work with a VHII bridge? I emailed Tim and he recommended a crawler and I'd go with that if it wasn't for a nagging fear that it would be too dark, low end and sweet sounding for what I want out of a neck PU.
Last 2 neck PU's i had were the mule which I thought was too light in the low end and then previous to that i had a HD neck and that was very boomy in my basswood. Both of these however were before I isntalled my wenge neck to my basswood guitar. Overall the guitar has a slightly brighter, more focus and this HUGE snarling low end quality lol. So much so that i had to significantly decrease the pickup height in order to take advantage of the sound.
To be honest i don't really or have really used a neck PU at all. And when i messaged tim i hadn't really 100% thought about it lol. I've always liked the single coil neck PU sound from my fender copy. Very SRV strat sounding. I always end up playing some blues (( which is rare lol )) or happier cleans (( which is ever rarer! )) when i play it. I'd love to transfer that to my basswood. I've always wanted a great slightly edgy "singing" lead tone like Gary moore as well without the lows being too thick or thin but just right.
I really liked the clips from the PG blues (( first time I've listened to it lol )) and the abraxas with the emerald and VHII neck following closely if it helps. The crawler neck does sound awesome though even though it sounds really fat and soft for my taste. and since I'm planning to coil split with my crazy 6 way switch it would be nice.
