NGD. But got a slight niggle. Pics inside.
« on: July 09, 2012, 07:10:11 PM »
My new Ibanez 570b. I was originally going to use this for an Abraxas/Emerald combo, but decided I'm going to use it for more contemporary purposes. A bit of Instrumental solos, a bit of 80s Metal, a bit of Power Metal, etc.

Anyways, the niggle I have is is that the neck/body join is very tight on the low E side, but the high E side seems to be less tight. I can fit a couple sheets of paper in between. The picture doesn't really show it well, but is it something I should be worried about?

Apart from that. It's a great guitar. Going to put the Abraxas/Emerald in my other S Series, but I'm going to start a thread on which pickups for this. I found it was easy to discuss pickup combos and get carried away, but it's strange once you get the guitar how you suddenly decide to look for something different haha. So please bare with with me.

All the best

I think that looks fine.

Has the neck ever shifted or clicked while playing?

The picture actually does look like its perfectly fine, but the gap is pretty noticeable in person. But regarding what you asked, it seems fine in those departments. I've tried tightening the screws and they're very tight. Everything seems sturdy, I was just kinda hoping for some reassurance.

Does it play alright and sound right?

Nice guitar by the way. Enjoy it!

It's not the tightest fit in the world, but it's certainly nothing to "worry" about.  It isn't going to cause any problems.

And as long as the neck's not shifting, I wouldn't keep trying to tighten the screws, you'll only end up cracking the finish.

I've seem Fenders with much sloppier neck pockets than that.  Some '70s ones, you could carry your credit cards on one side and your travel pass on the other.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

That still looks ok. By no means as tight as my Fender American Series strat and tele, but nothing to worry about.

Well that's good to hear. As I said, the picture makes it look not too bad. But the guitar plays fine, I just wanted to be 100% sure. Going to stick a set of BKPs in soon, so I'll be sure to get some pics and clips up, ASAP!

Thanks again for all the info. Still stuck on pickup choice, but going to have a good think over the next 2 days and maybe ask people's advice?
