Burnt chrome hardware.

Hi Guys,

I am thinking of getting burnt chrome pickups in my white Epi Les Paul custom. Does anyone know if BKP can sort out all matching hardware (bridge to tuning pegs?)

Not as far as I know.

I had the same thought years ago when BKP first introduced the Burnt Chrome covers, if I remember right the process involves heating the metal, which works OK on a thin pickup cover but isn't feasible on much bulkier items like tuners, tailpieces and bridges.

Could be wrong though!

Thanks for the reply, I have since contacted Tim and sadly it can't be done... I am now thinking that brushed nickle hardware with burnt chrome pickups would look pretty special on the white custom? This isn't just a vanity project, the pups in the Epiphone are hideous and it deserves better.  :P

Up to you!  Personally I favour the boring traditional route and like all matching hardware - I don't even like to mix nickel and chrome, except on vintage style Strats and Teles because that's what Fender did (and I'm still not entirely happy with it....)

....I knew that your reply would expose my uncertainty and obvious compromise.  :lol: I just think that the white Les Paul with all nickel hardware might look a bit cheap and the gold just isn't me, I liked it when I first got it but now I have got very bored of it. Any thoughts?

Maybe nickel hardware and no covers on the pickups?

I must admit a Les Paul Custom is one of the few guitars I think looks "right" with gold hardware.  But maybe not if it's a blinding white colour, a slightly yellowed vintage white would be preferable.

If the LP really is "brilliant white" and the fretboard looks like ebony (I assume it's rosewood), then black hardware could work (although I'm not usually keen on black hardware!).  I'd still have uncovered pickups though, I hate the black covers on BKPs.

It is very white, I was thinking nickel hardware with the Tyger covers, they will give it a nice modern feel.

You know what I'm going to say, Tygers are far too modernist for me. 

But I do think that combo will look pretty good on your white LP - definitely better than Burnt Chrome!

Why not approach a local garage - they're bound to have a flame torch you could use, or they would use for you for a negligible fee.  Don't see why it wouldn't work on existing hardware.

On tuning pegs, you're either gonna melt the plastic buttons (if it has them), or make the lubricating grease run out (could squirt more in though, depending on the tuner).  Personally, I think trying to scorch tuning pegs is doomed to failure.  Can't see why the bridge and stopbar can't be done though.

I've found that the Ibanez cosmic black (black chrome) hardware works really well with burnt chrome covers.
