Need Help for that Obituary Sound with Jackson Dinky
« on: August 01, 2012, 06:10:43 AM »
Folks.  I am new here and just discovered the greatest pickups in the world-bare knuckles.  I have a Jackson Dinky and am looking to get that old school Obituary sound out of it.  What pick ups would you suggest?  Any special pedal that would be good to go along with it, say an old school rat box?  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

John

The classic Stockholm death metal sound can be quite easily achieved with the Boss Hyper Metal pedal (HM-3), now discontinued, but you can often find it on Ebay. Obituary fit into that sound description IMO very much.
Alternatively, the Boss Metal pedal is the classic that for example Entombed swear by.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

Obituary use JCM800s with a RAT distortion pedal and I seem to recall Duncan JBs too with the guitar's tone rolled way back (but not on zero).

I'd be looking at the Holy Diver for sure, or if you want a crisper bass and more midrange focus, a Black Dog.
