neck single coil for 27 fret shred guitar
« on: September 09, 2012, 05:49:52 AM »
Hi there forum!

well the day has come to make the jump to bkp single coils. I'm looking to replace the neck of my Edwards kl-170, a 27 fret maple neck through, Floyd equipped guitar with mahogany wings, a maple cap, and ebony board. Now the neck pickup is angled, if that makes a difference... And my bridge is a Rebel Yell which is staying put. The guitar is acoustically fairly neutral. I play metal in E standard.

In there right now is a Duncan hot rails. Its alright. Nothing particularly wrong with it. It's not very articulate though and the cleans aren't great. The lead tone is good enough on it though. I know a BKP will utterly destroy a Duncan though.

I'm looking a single that can do nice cleans (though more thick/beefier cleans but still with a nice chime) and also do lead stuff (IE. shred). I guess since I like the cleans on the Rebel Yell id say leaning more towards shredding. I've narrowed it down to the trilogy suites... or maybe the sinners... I think the sinners might be too over the top though. My cleans are more arpeggiated stuff, not really strumming much. I do like the sinners clean clips though.... I like both sets of clips actually for both pickups.

Also would I buy the neck or middle position (due to the angled 27 frets)? does it even matter?

Can anyone give some advice or opinions? good match? what do they sound like in real life? Thanks!

I definitely think Trilogy Suite would be great here.

It doesn't make any difference whether you order neck or middle. The Trilogy Suite can still sound great clean; although it's hot, it still has tone.

I used to have a Trilogy Suite in the bridge of my Strat and it was good. I also had a tutor in college with Trilogies in his Strat, and they sounded killer. He did a great Stevie Ray with them too, if you ever fancy doing that kind of thing.
Bare Knuckles owned: Mules, VHII, Rebel Yells, BKP-91, Strat 63 set, Riff Raffs.
