Virgin Cable Broadband
« on: November 29, 2012, 01:44:07 PM »
Anyone use this ? Anyone having problems ? I've lost count of how many times I've phoned them this year to be told they are having problems in my area. I frequently have to re-set my router several times in a day. Getting a little fed up.

I don't have Virgin Cable so can't help I'm afraid, but I know it's available in my area - hardly a week passes without them trying to sign me up.  Do you get your TV from them as well?

Hi Philly, yes I've got TV with them as well. The TV service seems to be fine but it's only Mrs Richie that watches it. I've been off work this week and I haven't turned the TV on once. If I feel the need to watch anything I'll  do my viewing online.

To be fair I got in a bit of a paddy today because I was trying to do something and had to reset my router three times. On the whole the service is pretty good and, if you need to phone them, they answer promptly and don't give you any bull**it. They are a VAST improvement on Talk Talk who took over my original provider. TT were an utter nightmare who continued to send me bills for months after I'd cancelled my contract and referred me to a debt collection agency despite repeated assurances that they had sorted things out.

I'm contemplating Virgin TV because of this warning that 4G is going to interfere with Freeview reception in certain areas - and I'm in one of the areas they say will be worst affected, near the Crystal Palace transmitter.  :(

I absolutely refuse to get Sky, so it might be a case of getting a dish for Freesat, or maybe go for Virgin.  It's all a pain in the arse.

I don't have Virgin but a couple of SE London based friends do and have had similar issues. I can't suggest an alternative as I'm not using a cable broad band provider.

I'm in Oxford and get really good service from them, but I don't think that really helps you!

FWIW I did end up buying a cable router separately because their superhub is a bit flakey at best. I now use the superhub in modem mode and my other cable router for everything else - works a treat for me. The recent upgrade to 60MBit was quite nice, too.

I've only had to call them once in the last year or so.

I used to have Virgin broadband with TV and it worked very reliably; as it was actually my landlords and he used it for business, so I'm not sure what kind he signed up for (it was large house and he had a workshop as well in the yard).

I now live in an area where it seems we only have two choices - Sky or BT. Sucks, but so far the Sky internet has worked flawless (knock on wood!). I really hope that 4G isn't going to screw up the TV signal, as it is already not the best signal (we need a booster) and we live close to the train station in Colchester. I really don't want to have to pay extra money for Sky TV as well.

I'm confused by Roo's and Alex's Avatars ^.

I'd love the choice of having cable, but none in my area and no plans to lay any, which sucks.

I've had a lot of trouble with them. I've lost count of the number of times an engineer has come out to fix it on Friday and it's been down again by Monday. I guess it's OK if you only want the internet at weekends.. :?
