I'm certain the question has been asked a thousand times, but i haven't found a link to it with some research so here goes.

I just mounted an emerald neck on my gibbyES335. i find it a bit bass heavy, and the highs are a bit 'silky' and non natural, and sound a bit 'compressed' (this particular problem might be because i just lowered the strings a bit too much, i'll change that tomorrow).
I'm certain that it isn't supposed to be bassy heavy and to have that 'silky' thing, so i measured the volume pot:

the stock volume pot is 288 (!!) K.
Is that normal for a ES335? is that wanted? normal for the classic 57 that were mounted wiht it at first? why would gibson would put 300K pots in humbucker guitars? is there a reason?
Do you think that changing the pot to a 500k one would correct what i mentioned earlier?
Does it mean that now, with my pot fully opened, my guitar sounds like it would sound with the volume at 6 if the pot was changed for a 500K one?

and, is there a place to buy 550k push pull pots ? :)
Thanks for your advices.

I don't think you can get 550k push pulls but a 500k or 1M would do (I use 1Ms in all my guitars because it doesn't affect the tone as much as lower values)

Ideally for the emerald you want at least a 500k.

With lower resistance pots you lose high end and it tends to get boxy/wooly and have a very soft attack.

how the heck would you get a full size push pull in a 335?

the 500 or 550k will make a big difference though to the tone

I've done that!
but i wouldn't want to do it everyday :)

i'll go for the 550k and see how it goes :)
Thanks for your advices, it sounds exactly like the symptoms i am describing.
