Nice old amp, very cool.
How does it compare in the room to your old XTC?

Well, obviously Bogners have more gain, a loop, channels, etc. Also they are more versatile in that they have completely clean channels up to all out gained tone.
The thing is though, no matter how I set this Marshall, it seems to sound as expected, the sound I know from so many records of the past, maybe what I was trying to get with all those other amps. There isn't too much bass like on the Bogners, and while it's very bright, it isn't harsh in a bad way, more in a rockn'roll way. Slammed with an overdrive the amp plays itself basically, it just sits so nicely in the frequency range, so easy to get harmonic feedback, so easy to have squeals and make high notes sing.
My theory is that simple as the circuitry is, you basically hear pure glass and iron, whereas Bogners (or most other more refined or "complicated" amps) are too much filtered or something. Nice to play on their own, but usually I am trying to make them sound like what I hear in my head - which is a Marshall basically.
Well I obviously still have to try this with the band, my guess is they will say it's too loud :)
