NS/EHRBCD! Or something.

New Seventies/Eighties Hard Rock Back-Catalogue Day!  :D

I haven't actually acquired all these today, but I have been buying them in the last few weeks.

In 2012, as in most recent years, I've bought very little new music.  But I do keep going back to the bands I liked 30 years ago, plugging gaps in my collection or replacing vinyl with CDs.

We've seen lots of remasters and "deluxe editions" in recent years, now I keep coming across some very tempting box sets (Led Zeppelin on the way soon, I believe)

Couldn't resist....

(I know the third picture isn't a box set, but it fits the general theme)

Cool. I remember Mahogany Rush Live, always meant to get that one :D

And what's this about another stab at the Led Zeppelin stuff? Oh dear... I'm in two minds about that - I managed to pass on the reremastered Queen catalogue (although it did sound like I might like the effect on the first two).

BOC never really grabbed me, but I wouldn't mind exploring Kansas a bit.

I read somewhere (too lazy to look it up!) that Jimmy Page is revisiting the Led Zeppelin albums to produce deluxe editions with rarities, studio outtakes, live tracks etc.  Not sure if the actual albums are being re-re-mastered....

Which is all mildly annoying, as I'll probably feel obliged to buy it all.... and then, let's face it, I'll probably listen to those bonus tracks once then skip them on all subsequent listens.

I've always liked the fact that Zeppelin (like Rush) were a band who didn't release loads of singles with rare-but-essentially-worthless B-sides, remixes, ropey-sounding live tracks etc.  I always felt if I'd already bought an album I shouldn't "need" to also buy the singles.  I know that means I'm not a "true fan", but whatever....

Then again, it's nice to be able to buy things like these box sets if you haven't already got the albums concerned!  I've only got a few of the Blue Oyster Cult albums - a couple on CD, a couple on ancient vinyl - so this box represents a great bargain.  With Kansas, I've already got all but two of these albums, but the box is the only way to get hold of remastered versions of the four most recent ones, so it's still a good deal.  :D
