Shame the SL-5 doesn't come in a head version (it would take up less space than the combo!)

i agree, a head version would be good.  maybe one will come along.  it is good that they've given it a decent speaker to begin with.  the unfortunate things are that it has a particle board cabinet, and the fact that, on current exchange rates, it costs £150 more than in America!

I was thinking "oh well, that's par for the course", then I realised!  Why the hell is a Marshall more in the UK than the US?

It's made in China isn't it? Shipping from there to here plus I'm guessing the US will take many more units, plus US sales tax and it probably, about, evens out.

Yeah, that makes sense.  I weas thinking it would be made in the UK like the limted edition 1w amps, but that's probably not the case.

Nope, the SL-5 is a full production model, and is pretty much the replacement for the discontinued Class 5.

it is replacing the Class 5, and while it has more features, the Class 5 was made in England.  since it's made in China, i would have expected less, if any, hike over the Class 5's price.  that being said, the main thing that bothers me is the particle board construction.  it does sound pretty good in clips though.

They really should have made a head, throw a TS infront and it would probably do some really nice 80s thrash tones without disturbing the neighbours too much

As a combo I thought the v30 might not be the most optimal speaker for the volume level it'll be most used at

I think it's a V30 in my Orange 1x12, so an SL-5 head would give me the equivalent of the SL-5 combo.  But I could be wrong.

If it sounds as good as the JMP1c its going to be the thing to fill my Marshall GAS. I do want the 5150III combo first though.

No head version of the SL-5? That's too bad... not really interested in a combo now that I have several cabs already taking up space. They made a head version of the Class 5!
I have to say though that ENGL Ironball looks more interesting at teh moment anyway, I always loved the ENGL Fireball.

BTW, Reussenzehn makes a singlended EL34 amp which is called - suprise - "EL34".

It got rave reviews in German Gitarre&Bass, but I am totally underwhelmed by any demo.
More interestingly, it doesn't seem to be more powerful than two EL84.
