do I need to upgrade my guitar bridge?
« on: February 08, 2013, 12:40:50 AM »
I have recently changed the tuners on a Danelectro DC-12 and would like to know if you think it's a good idea to change the guitars stock bridge?

I'm also re-wiring it with new CTS pots and easier to work with vintage style cloth covered wire as well and putting new seymour duncan pickups in...

I was about to order a gotoh bridge when I noticed something unusual...the holes in the back of the bridge wouldn't match up with the holes in the guitar!

here is a link to show you, http://www.g-gotoh.com/international/?btp_product=gtc12

would this mean having to fill in the old holes and re-drilling new ones?

do you think it's worth upgrading the bridge seeing as I am upgrading everything else? or should I just leave it?

Ben.

yeah the string through holes on those bridges are staggered slightly  on the baseplate.   if the string holes on your guitar on in a straight line it will require some modification to fit and if this is the case i would question whether its worth doing.  they are a nice bridge though.

If i was doing it i would be more tempted to modify the bridge baseplate than the guitar

I'm a great one for replacing bridges and other hardware, but I don't like to do it if it involves re-drilling screw or string holes.  Not only is there much scope for error, it devalues the guitar too.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM
