Humbuckers for Bridge & Neck of Squire Tele Custom
« on: February 04, 2013, 12:58:42 PM »
Hey,

I'm starting a little mod project on a Squire Tele Custom (the one with two humbuckers) and I'm looking for ideas for pickups...

With this guitar I think I want to focus on getting the sweetest clean tones from both neck and bridge... (Overdirve/Distortion is not a consideration for this one).

For some reason I feel like mentioning that I like the Cure although I'm not sure if that will affect your suggestions :-) Anyhoo, looking forward to hearing ideas.

Thanks,
Dave

"Clean" to me suggests low output, i.e. the vintage category. The Stormy Monday came to my mind first but I have no first hand experience with them.

Cheers Stephan

I have a CS in the neck of a schecter tempest and its clean tone is devine - i prefer it to the Mule in my SG...

Bridge clean tones are harder to sweeten.

Stormy Mondays or Mules.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

If I was going to coil tap it, what bridge HB would you think to get as close to the tele twang as possible? Cheers.

In that case a bit higher output humbucker would deliver a fiercer splitted tone, but out of those I would pick the Mule.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I would say the Mississippi queens would be a contender too. The neck really has some beautiful cleans. If you want humbuckers stormy Mondays or mule would be my choice.
