NPD -- AnalogMan Sunface content
« on: March 15, 2013, 12:21:26 AM »
After a shoot out with 8 different fuzz pedals (3 Fuzz Faces, 3 Sun Faces, 2 JMI Tone Benders), I picked up an AnalogMan SunFace, BC183/Sunface Dial/DC input.

This pedal just KILLS. It's incredibly reactive to what guitar and amp you are using. I am greatly looking forward to trying it stacked with other pedals in various combinations as well. :)

very cool, the Anologman pedals are really good.  i tried out some sort of fuzz years ago, and it sounded fabulous, it was the first time i thought "i want a fuzz"! :)  i've got one of their chorus pedals, and it's excellent too.

Great score, was always intrigued by the Sunfaces, they were one of the first boutique pedals i ever "found". Although i have one question if it's ok? this is an Si fuzzface judging by the trannies, so how come the "sunface" bias knob is on it?

Congrats! I tried the Dunlop Fuzz Face but I don't like the mud on the low strings. Maybe I should try some other fuzz-pedals.

Other types, for sure; there are many varieties. The 'mud' you are referring to is a feature, tho, not a bug. :)

They do. I have a Beano Boost, also, which I love to pieces.

how would you compare the Beano boost to the Thundertomate Fat-TB?

Oh, they are apples and oranges. I still think that the Thundertomate is the best and most versatile boost one can buy; the dip switches essentially give you 12 boosts in one and it will bring any amp into face melting goodness. :)

The Beano is more of a "colour" boost.

A more affordable alternative, which sounds REALLY REALLY close to the Beano -- in fact, with your eyes closed I doubt you would hear the difference -- is the Catalinbread Naga Viper.

I should know, I own both of 'em! :)

(I definitely have too many boosts lol)

According to AnalogMan's web site:
Quote from: AnalogMan
The sundial is not really needed, as the silicon transistors are not temperature sensitive. But you can use the sundial knob to dial in different sounds if desired. We do put the BIAS trimpot on the inside of the two-knob sunfaces so you can still tweak it if desired. The Sundial knob may cause more noise on a silicon (high gain) sunface, due to the extra wires, so it may be best to not order the sundial if you want to keep the noise down.

I've always prefered the analogman fuzz pedals to most others, although it's not technically a fuzz I love the EHX big muff for fuzz sounds as well

I've heard nothing but good things about AnalogMan so congrats on the NPD! I hope those three pics of your pedals is the same board reconfiggured

And a little off topic question: How do find the BB Preamp? I have taken interest to it, but have never played one.

Oh, goodness no! I think my head would explode! That was the only way I could get all of my boosts together. ALL of my pedals would fit quite comfortably in a single photo, if I had them all together in one place at the same time. (NYC living means that I am constantly keeping things in storage which are not of immediate use)

I have:

1x rotary
1x tuner
1x chorus
2x echo
2x overdrive
2x distortion
2x phase
4x fuzz
5x boost

My personal opinion? If you only have ONE pedal, that's probably the one to have. You can use it as a clean boost, EQ, or overdrive. It sounds stellar in each of those applications as well.

How does it work in front of an overdriven amp? I was thinking about getting one as a replacement for my TS-like T-Rex Alberta.

It sounds fantastic.  It is not TS-like at all...
