Blackmore Sound with Irish Tours (Middle and Neck)
« on: April 02, 2013, 09:55:10 AM »
Dear friends,

I am building a HSS strat right now (alder Body, Rosewood Neck), and I consider buying a VHII/Irish Tours Set... The VHII for classic/hard rock sounds, the single coils should cover the traditional blackmore sound from records like Fireball and In Rock...

Do the Irish Tours cover these sounds, or do they sound too SRV/Texas Blues typical? As I see, there is plain enamel used, which supports the blackmore tone...

Thanks in advance, Tobi

I think you'll find the Irish Tours to vintage and bluesy for your styles. I would consider Slowhands, but I don't know how the match with a VHII.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

IT's would work fine - and without a Marshall stack probably would do the job better than lighter wound pickups, although I think the specs of Blackmore's 68 black strat pickups would be nearer to Mothers Milks, however, which have the same values and wire as mid to late 60s pickups.
