warpig neck clean samples? anyone?
« on: April 01, 2013, 11:31:55 AM »
hello guys!
im thinking about moving from emg's to bkp... there is no local bkp dealer in my country, so after a lot of thinking, listening and digging out reviews and info in forums, boards etc.. ive decided to try a ceramic warping bridge for its distinctive massive low end growl, but i really dont know about the neck pickup.
ive read that the warpig neck has a very good smooth distorted lead tone but i can't find any
opinions about its clean tone and not even a single sound sample (except for samples that on the bkp website which all sound quite the same for me).
so what do you guys think about the warpig neck clean tone?

just for the protocol i play an esp horizon nt-ii with 81 bridge and 60 neck into
a genz benz el diablo head.

Hiya,

I did a clean neck pickup clip, of an alnico Warpig in a es175 copy last year ; A bit of chord melody type experimentation. It may not be your desired sound, but hopefully goes some way to show that the Warpig is capable of nice cleans, albeit  more compressed / 'hot' than the lower gain B.K.P.s of course :

Here is the link to the download :

The thread was this one:

I usually use Manhattans or Stormy Mondays for this sort of thing, But the Warpigs remain very pleasing, when you want something a bit 'Naughty but nice'.

I'm in the process of swapping out a cpig 7 set for blackhawks. I like the Cpig set but I feel for a 7 there is too much bottom end on the low A string . any note above c is great  but that open string just doesnt define as much as I'd like .its not horrible and is more than usuable but I dont feel like its a keeper for me after 6 motnhs with it

I have a 6 string Apig bridge in another guitar thats in C standard at the moment  and its working . its a maple guitar so its bright to start with

That said the pig neck clean is nice. its fat and round . for me its not for strumming at all but I'm not a strummer on clean parts . but clean work  with some delay it sounds great , but again for me just  the lowset notes are too round and bass heavy .

I also play through a dual recto so its a bottom heavy amp to start with

Maton- jazz/JB
Cole Clark -NB Neck ,  Apig
Mayones Setius - Juggs
Et Guitars Katana 7 -Juggs
Mesa Dual Rect
and more stuff

thanks for reply!
do you guys think a warpig set would fit well in an esp horizon?
its a maple neck through with mahogany wings and ebony fretboard... its kinda hard
for me to describe its tone characteristics ...because in standard E tuning (10-48 strings)
it was damn too bright! (think strat with treble booster bright... not kidding).
in drop C (11-54 strings) its a whole new story:
the bridge pickup was muddy as hell on distorted rhythm and leads and the neck pickup was somehow ok i guess.
at the time the guitar was loaded with a duncan jb\59 combo... i swapped theme with
an emg 81\60 set and right now the distorted tone is perfect but i cant get any good
clean tone or a mid gain crunchy tone, even the 60 which is in fact very clean and clear but lacks any character or "woody" nuance to it, like i play into an old line6 pod with headphones. the actives turned my axe into a one trick pony guitar, smashes on heavy dist but sounds like an 200$ guitar on clean.
i thought maybe the warpig calibrated set will let me go full mayhem on the bridge pickup and still maintain some decent natural clean tones in the neck position.
what do you think guys?

I can't give you any advice regarding the neck pickup, but I have a ceramic warpig in my caparison horus and it frickin' slays! It has a very distinctive sound though, especially when tuned very low, that might not be for everyone. However when tuned to standard it sounds a lot more 'normal', just meatier and with an incredible grind and body to the tone. It's both clear and well defined but it has a certain bluntness and twangyness to it that makes it well suited for grind, sludge, old death metal and some black metal. It's pretty tight. In split mode it has some pretty cool tones that works with both a clean and distorted tone, very Botch-y. I'd say that if you want you're tone to anywhere near this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRO1LX5Kk3o
Ceramic warpig is the pickup for you!

is it your band? because if so... seriously dude... thats a really aggressive tone you got there! *thumbs up*

dose the c-warpig cut good in a live\rehearsal mix?

Haha I wish! Here's a clip I recorded with my band this weekend, on the guitar I was talking about, it's hasn't been mixed yet, there's no bass or vocals so don't judge us to harshly. The amp is a peavey 6505, I wouldn't recommend using a much darker amp than that. My drummer/recording engineer had to cut the treble a lot in the mixer so I'd say it cuts pretty well during rehersal/life performance.

here's another one, with vocals at least:
