Supermassive's vs Stockholm's
« on: May 13, 2013, 01:18:02 PM »
So it's come to that time of year again where I've found myself with a guitar that I want to upgrade. Specifically a PRS SE EG from 2004. It has a mahogany body and (set) neck with a rosewodd board.

I'm looking to make this guitar quite versatile and have come to the conclusion that I'd like to dump a p90 in the business end (the bridge) because p90's sound awesome. I play a lot of hard rock/metal (AC/DC to Gojira, with a slight tour of Deftones) but love to noodle around some old I-IV-V stuff.

The supermassive and stockholm 'seem' to be the best candidate for this but I'm curious as to what the differences between them are. I know the Stockholm has a higher output and is HSP90 but they both seem to do the same thing. Can someone give me anymore info on there differences i.e nuances, if the react differently to gain, is one slightly more mid heavy than the other etc etc.

Any help would make me owe you a beer.
  :)
Cheers!

I meant to add this...;

This is the band I play in. Just for a tone comparison. (Just an FYI I used a Rebel Yell and my other guitarist used a Miracle Man to record it).

And now enough of my self whoring.

I recently had an exchange with Ben about these. Though we mostly focused on the neck model this was more or less the bottom line: The Stockholm takes what the SM does and adds output, agression and bottom end.
Comperativly the SM is a bit more like a classic P90, while the Stockholm is a lot fatter.

Ultimatly I went for a Stockholm bridge with a Supermassive neck for one of my axes and am waiting for them to arrive.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

Thanks! That's really handy.

Kinda settles me on a Stockholm for the bridge.
Cheers for the help!
