I mean I went gibson with my last guitar (SG standard) because it was actually cheaper than a new MIJ tokai

And in that instance, I think you've probably got a better guitar anyway.  Unless it was one of the real top of the line Tokais (SG-175 or whatever it is now).
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Nah it was cheaper than the cheapest MIJ tokai, the USG-75 or whatever it is.

And yeah, I think so. Aside from maybe the short neck tenon and the 300k pots (and possibly laminated rosewood fretboard  ), I suppose. But yeah it does seem to be a nice guitar, I was cacking it before it came as I know all about Gibson's QC  I made the calculated risk that all the iffy ones I'd tried before had been the cheaper models and that hopefully a standard would be ok (since they're plekked now, too, far as I'm aware).

:o  That really shows how much MIJ prices have gone up, five years ago I got an SG-75 for under £500, which was (I think) a good £250 less than an SG Standard at the time.

Admittedly I did get a really good price on the SG from a shop in dublin- £600. They were blowing out the 2012 models- that price difference wouldn't really hold for the 2013 SG standards which seem to be closer to the £1000 mark  But yeah at the time I got my Gibson (just after the new year) the cheapest MIJ Tokai I could see was £650 (and it didn't have a case).
