Been wanting to take one of my more "niche" musical projects to the live stage for a good long while, now, but I needed a Bass amp to do it and money is very tight at the mo.

Saw something that looked too good on Gumtree, the guy was nearby so I thought I'd at least go take a look. It is a Trace Elliott GP12 SMX with a TE 4x10 cab with a TE 1x15 cab included. He's moved house and has had the thing hanging around in his life since he was in a Nu Metal band back in the early 2000's, I'm guessing his Mrs wants it gone and he's kind of realised he won't really use its full potential any more, so I was more than happy to take it off his hands for the price quoted in the ad. Initially I thought he'd made a typo and missed off a zero, but nope!

I had a little test today at "neighbour friendly" volume, but this weekend I'm hopefully taking it to the practice room for a bit of a stomper. So far, though, it sounds amazing! The head is overflowing with features, so many EQ options, a solid state / valve blend knob, 12 band EQ, just everything you could possibly want for tone shaping. I haven't even seen a guitar amp with this much flexibility!

A friend had one of these TE rigs with the green, I figure it was the same vintage.  My main memory of it is the speaker box being very light compared to my Peavey box.  I used to be able to press the box over my head and carry it up there if I had to move through a crowd with it when helping him set up.

The 4x10 is doable over a short distance, but I'm skin and bone and carrying it up the hill to my house this week almost killed my arms, hah! I had to carry the 4x10 a little way, go back for the 1x15, carry that a little further, put it down, go back for the 4x10 and so on until I got to my front door. The Mrs helped me get the 4x10 in the house as my arms were shot by that point, but the 1x15 is super-light!

Well I used to work out a fair bit ten years ago but I still remember it being unusually light.  I found it awkward to carry in front of me but once I had it upside down by the handles I could put it on my head and it was fine.  I wouldn't even dream of doing that with my Peavey 410TX cab

I think getting this to regular gigs will give me all the work out I need, hah! But well worth the pain, it sounds beautiful. Going to put my Bad Monkey and Big Muff Pi in front of it tomorrow and test out what kind of distorted tones I can get. :D

I used a T-Rex Mudhoney II on my bass rig last week, killed both the Swollen Pickle and Rottweiler in terms of a tone that cut through against the drums.  I got it from an ebay seller as B-stock (no box) delivered to Australia for AU$108, but that was also during a 15% off sale on ebay on items over $50.  I think the seller had sale on too because his price was US$12, whereas now it is US$149.

I think you can still find them for great prices, T-Rex seems to have dumped everything that had a scratch or a missing box

I always have a Boss LS-2 on my bass board, I highly recommend it for mixing in dry signal with effects.

The Polytune 2 pedal has a bass setting which is really good for a tuner.
