Aftermath vs. Nailbomb vs. ???

Hi guys,


I am currently putting the configuration of my new guitar together, a Mayones Setius M7, and would like to use BKPs. I have never used them before and am now wondering which ones to go with. Problem is, after listening to the sound samples for a while it all starts to sound the same. You know what I mean. Hence I would much appreciate some advice from you guys here. So, here some information:
Guitar: 7-string, mahogany body, maple top, bolt-on mahogany neck with ebony fretboard, fix bridge without tremolo and string-through-body technology for faster response
Amp: ENGL Invader 150 with a Engl 2x12" cabinet using V30s

The music I am currently playing in my band is a mix of Hard Rock and Metal with a rather modern sound, so no 80s NWOBHM style but also not super hard like death
metal. I like natural, round sounds with a powerful bass and clear trebles and silghtly less mids. I am looking for a punchy rhythm and singing lead tones. Also, I would prefer a sound that is not too one-dimensional and allows to play other styles on occasion.

So, what do you think about the following combinations:
1) Calibrated Aftermath set
2) Calibrated Nailbomb set
3) Nailbomb in bridge and Vintage Hot VHII in the neck position
4) Any other combos you would recommend

The Cold Sweat neck is often paired with either of those bridge pickups.  The Rebel Yell neck is similar to the Cold Sweat neck and could also be used.  These are both rounded in tone and suitable for 'shredding' if that's your thing.

From what you say regarding mids and bass I think the Nailbomb is more what you are after.  There are alnico and ceramic magnet options, with the ceramic being more 'scooped' in the mids.

That said seven strings are not something I play and they seem to have their own requirements due to the low string.  Have a look at this comparison of the Rebel Yell, VHII, and Aftermath pickups in a seven string in an eight string guitar, it might be useful for you somehow as they are in the exact same guitar, only the pickups changed.  It is djent though, so I find it a bit hard to tell whether I'd like them or not.  But you can hear the different characteristics quite clearly in terms of mids, lows, highs, tightness, etc.

EDIT: Just to clarify, the video shows two combinations: Aftermath calibrated set, and Rebel Yell (bridge) with VHII (neck).  It does not show the VHII bridge or the Rebel Yell neck.
