you're describing nailbombs
rebel yell wil be brighter, but should have even more upper mids and less bass than the crawler

Thanks, I had also considered the Alnico Nailbomb but I have already got a Duncan Custom 5 in another guitar and that is also an A5 pickup that's been at the steroids and I was worried that it would be too similar?  Would you say the Alnico Nailbombs are as versatile as the Rebel Yells or Mules?

not as versatile as those, but still versatile enough, although it's a quite powerful pickup
still cleans up better than the duncan custom models and has all the bkp clarity
the bridge pup has very similar specs to the crawler, but the coil asymmetry makes it punchier and edgier instead of stuffed of mid
still not a harsh and compressed pickup like the ceramic duncan custom, for example
it used to be recommended by BKP as one of the most versatile models not long ago

I'm not a fan of the bright and scooped strat-like twangy tone of the neck pickup, but works for the fenderish stuff and for some intense and focused neck lead tones
it's probably the most articulate neck humbucker I've come across
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

Hello mate here's a link one of our songs when I had a set of Mules in my Les Paul. They sound pretty bright on this don't know if that will help. Orange Dual Terror amp, boost pedal only and through PA.
cheers

Loved the sound of your LP - very Kossoff. I take it you don't have the Mules in that guitar any more. What did you change to and why ?

Hello mate thanks for the kind words. I took a chance on a set of the 10th Anniversaries,I liked the sound of them from the email I got from Tim. I was just wanting to try something different. I still  have the Mules looks like I will fit them into my PRS Bernie Marsden. I love the Mules but the 10th Ann. are a bit smoother and am glad I took the chance on them.

I noticed the similar specs, too, but I can confirm that these bridge pickups sound nothing alike. Even though it has a lot of power, the Crawler has that distinct PAF DNA which the A-Bomb does not have. A more detailed comparison can be found in the Review Collection Thread.

Cheers Stephan

A little update ... I'm still thinking about a Rebel Yell for the long term but for now I've desoldered the csp on the bridge's tone ciruit, effectively dissabling the tone circuit as a whole. This has given the Crawler a little more bite and giving it an overall sound that I'm quite happy with.

Now to sort out the boominess of the neck when driven hard ...
