BKPs for custom guitar
« on: September 24, 2013, 04:01:45 PM »
Hi mates! I chose Aftermaths for my new custom guitar. Due to the fact that the guitar isn't finished and I can change pickups, I donīt know if AM are what Iīm looking for.
I have a 59/JB set in my other guitar and I want a different sounding.

My guitar is ash body with swamp ash top, ebony fretboard and wenge/maple neck. I know it's bright sounding.
I donīt want the pickup being harsh or dry, like I've read about the AM.
The guitar tuning will be Drop B. Also would you suggest a beautiful clean neck pickup? I think itīs not AM point but...
I like Parkway Drive and Progressive metal (Intervals,Periphery) I like djent sounding but it isnīt my main sounding.
What would you recommend?
Cheers!!

Kiichi

Well the AM bridge sure does not really sound like your thing then I guess.

Actually you might wanne think about the newest BKPs, the Juggernauts. Since they are Mishas signature PUs you should be able to do Periphery with them no problem (though acording to Misha this PU is not djenty as that sound comes mostly from the picking and amp settings). Sides that it is supposed to be suprisingly fat and round, pretty full actually. The combination of alnico and ceramic aims at delivering the best of both worlds.
Compared to the AM more lower mids, juice and fullness, but still tight as heck.

Judging from the clips and the info we got they should sit nicely in a brighter guitar like the one you are planning and should work a charm for those styles too.

Other than that perhaps the Miracle Man which has a somewhat scooped sound and lots of low mids to deliver serious fatness and punch.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

As often seems to be the case, I am pretty much in agreement with Kiichi. The Juggernaut will be closest to an Aftermath so I guess it depends on just how aggressive you want things. I can tell you from personal experience that a guitar with a Miracle Man in it compliments a guitar with a Holydiver (think JB but a LOT better) in it beautifully.
BKP owned:

Bridge - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; A-Bomb; Holydiver; Miracle Man; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Neck - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; Holydiver; Sinner; Trilogy Suite
