Symmetrical/Asymmetrical pickups
« on: September 27, 2013, 03:47:04 PM »
Hi boys, some BKP pickups are heavily assymetric (like Mule or VHII), but what do you mean with "heavy assymetric"? 20% of different between two coil? More? Less?

And assymetric bobins give more high, while symmetric give more middle frequencies, but for bass frequencies?

asymmetric delivers more bass as well
some of the bassiest models are very asymmetric (nailbomb, vh2, miracle man)
the warpig is very bassy and is symmetric, but it gets heavily overwound to achieve that

The A-Bomb is very 'hairy' - the 'hairiest' in the BKP lineup I'm guessing - and some people have attributed that to the asymmetric winding.  The A-Pig has a lot more bass but generally sounds a lot smoother than the A-Bomb

My experience with the asymetric Nailbomb bridge is what put me off getting a VHII neck the last two times I've been looking for a neck pickup. Perhaps the neck is different and it's just the bridge that is heavily asymetric but I didn't know and didn't want to take the chance.

Is the Painkiller another asymmetric one?  It seems fairly hairy too
