Hi guys. I have something odd going on whilst trying to sort out my 1992 USA Floyd Strat. It had a mish mash of pups on it but I have gone back to two Fender single coils and a DiMarzio H8 (which I believe is the PAF Pro as originally used by Fender).
What I would like to happen is have full humbucker in bridge only and tapped humbucker (noise cancelling) when bridge and middle are selected together. Having fumbled around on the net and on the guitar I now know that red and bare go to ground, green to the normal spot on the five way and black and white go together somewhere (bear with me on this).
I initially just connected the black and white together and got full humbucker on bridge (fine) plus non-tapped humbucker and middle together (obviously) but not noise cancelling. I then found this really useful diagram on this very forum:
https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/downloads/schematics/general/hsh_hss/hss__1_vol__1_tone__5_way_with_auto_coilsplit.pdfI then tried soldering the black and white wires to the position indicated on the other side of the 5-way. This gave me the tapped humbucker and middle when selected together and noise cancelling too (whoppy doo) but when selecting the bucker on it's own in bridge position it was really noisy (how did that happen). The lug I soldered the black and white to is in the position indicated on the diagram (I think) but it also has a black wire which was already on there going to a lug on one of the tone pots (it has the TBX type tone pot). Would that be something to do with it or have I just stuffed something up somewhere ?. I am pretty rubbish at soldering it must be said. I think what I want is this:
http://support.fender.com/diagrams/stratocaster/0134200A/SD0134200APg2.pdfThere is also a mini switch that was previously used as a coil tap when it had a Seymour Duncan, I tried wiring what I thought was the same way to that but it gave the same non-spilt sound in both positions ?. One side of the mini switch had a wire going to ground and I think the two wires from the Duncan were together on the other side ?.
Can anyone advise me here, would be most grateful!.
Cheers
John
