Dean Cadillac Select X Fernandes Ravelle Elite/Deluxe
« on: February 20, 2014, 07:06:21 PM »
HI GUys, how are you!?!?

IM planning on FINISH once and for all my guitar collection(not exactly the way i expected, but even though im happy with it. i would like to have More guitars with mahogany bodies, but i ended up with basswood, a wood i dislike. ).
I currently have 6 guitars. 2 of them are 7 string guitars. but i dont have ANY Les paul style guitars. its not my cup of tea, i had 3 lespauls but i didnt identify myself with the style. I surely enjoyed the bolder and darker classic les paul tone, but the playabillity and other stuffs didnt match me. so i didnt keep them.
BUT Now i think its time to have, at least ONE Model, SO ill grab one. But, since I ALMOST Always WANT to slightly modify everything i get my hands on, ill not get an EXACT les paul copy, but a modded one.
Im in between a Dean Cadillac Select http://www.deanguitars.com/img/cadiseltge.jpg Or, a Fernandes Ravelle elite or deluxe.http://www.mh-friends.com/cgibin/img/FERNANDES%20RAVELLE%20DELUXE_01.jpg

I was even considering including a BC RICH Eagle, but that one is a neck thru design, but im already getting my 7th guitar, a Dean Vendetta 4.0 trans BLue, thats neck thru, so i removed the bc rich from the choice.

So, heres my questions : could you guys list the pros and cons of both guitars?
Can you compare them in performancy, playabillity, price and TONE? and most important thing, QUALITY and where are they made in? i think the fernandes are either chinese, or indonesian. not sure. but the deans are korean made .

SO, thank you very much in advance

That cadillac is not my cup of tea. The body shape is so so... not great... but the headstock is beyond horrendous. Seriously.

I can't see the picture of the other guitar.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

Im thinking the design is too modern for me, at this time. in other words, too agressive. i like both, but im affraid of the tone and quality on the fernandes Ravelle.
Dean is known for their quality on import guitars, but im not sure about the design.

Hi,

I am a extremely happy owner of Dean Cadillac Selecet for about 8 years now and I can assure you that they are truly wonderful instruments.
When it comes to quality even that they are made in Korea, the quiality is superb. Really, there`s nothing that I could complain about.
Only last year I`ve replaced all frets as well as nut, but that was after about 7 years and till that time I never had any problems with Dean.
Frets got little worn, but that`s quite understandably normal after that time. When it comes to the nut, the typical problem with all LP style (strings coming out of the nut in a slight angle) guitars has occurred but once again, there was quite normal and nothing to do with the quality.
Apart from that everything was fine, no problems. Gotoh tuners are fine as well, and never had any issue with them either. Pots? Same again. Alpha pots, but 2 push/pulls among the other two is a nice accent.

so QUALITY - truly great especially for the prize. You cannot go any better for about £500, really.

TONE. Well, to be honest stock pickup Dean DMT are not too bad fro stock pickups. Neck pickup is nice especially when splitted, bridge one is quite weak. But once again, last year I`ve replaced them with BKPs and now Caddy kicks ass!

So if you like the shape (Im a big fan of Cadillac by the way), trust me you cannot go any better than Caddy for this price.
Really good quality, good quality wood, nice finish, everything up to scratch.
The only thing that comes to my mind now is quite weak and dull sounding stock bridge pickup and sooner or later that would be a good idea to replace nut as well to the one which will be cut precisely for angled strings)

Last year I`ve replaced everything in my Caddy (just basically left wood only):
-locking Sperzel tuners
-new stainless steel frets
-Buzz Feiten Tuning system
-bone nut
-changed MOP inlays to Abalone ones
-BKP pickups (CBomb in bridge and Cold Sweat in neck)
-BKP pots plus one Mojotone PUSH/PUSH
-BKP Jersen caps
-Switchcraft input jack
-Graphtech Resomax bridge
-Graphtech tailpiece

but even before that major upgrade it was fine, solid, great quality guitar for that money.

Hope it helps.

Hey Lucas
very nice input man. thank you very much.
Im also considering getting a cold sweat for my guitars. the neck version. could you make a videoclip playing some lead with it and , of course, with full distortion or at least enough of it not to get out of sustain ?
it will help  me decide . Q: )
im sure ill enjoy the quality with the dean cadillac, but i liked the ravelle visual better, but so far, i had no input regarding them, ill wait and collect more infos about it and make my mind.
Q: )
Thank you very much man

No bother, hope you`ll have loads of fun! :D

Do you still want me to record some clips with CS neck? If you do, I`ll do it at the end of the week, in next couple of days Ill have no time to even plug the guitar in. sorry.

OH YEAH MAN, Please, record it as soon as you have time.
and please remember. LOTS of distortion. or at least enough not to lost sustain. Q: P
AND, i will need some clean on the clip as well, since ill be using the neck pickup for lead work AND clean atmospheres.
if you could do some solos, it would be nice. Q: )
THANKS
