Are they more expensive because of parts or because they are signature(and a commision is payed to the artist)?

I used to watch Geoff play at the Bridgehouse Canning Town ( East London) back in the late 1970's and he was a tonemeister then and he was also a very pleasant approachable bloke. Superb guitarist in my view.
