Anyone using Nailbombs in a Ash bodied Srat?

Hey guys.

Just wondered if anyone here has tried Nailbombs, I think mine are Alnico but not sure, in an Ash bodied strat with Rosewood fretboard at all?

I'm in the process of moving some thing about and the NBs may be coming out of my Ibanez before it gets traded away, and I want the Cold Sweat from my Strat for my V, so that'd leave the NBs with nowhere to go and the strat with no pickup  :lol:

I play mainly 70s and 80s Rock and old Punk stuff, not looking to really copy any particular tone 100% though. Just want something suitable for the stuff I play.

i tried an abomb in an alder strat and it didnt seem like the right set up. it sounded okay but didnt have a lot of meat. i like abombs better in bigger guitars like LPs or explorers etc

I have a pair of Holydivers in an Alder Jackson that I really like, but I'm trying to avoid duplicates if I can, especially in relatively similar guitars.

At this moment in time I'm thinking of leaving the Strats Cold Sweat where it is, again as I really like it, getting a new pair of Cold Sweats for the V and then just selling the Nailbombs off as well as the RYs in my Tokai to possibly fund somethign else for that guitar, I've never been 100% sure on the RYs if I'm honest.

I would try the RYs in the V before you do anything. They might surprise you there.

Yep, I have 1 in an HSS Strat with a pair of Irish Tours  :D really good sounding pickup in bright guitars.

I find them a bit bright in a thick Mahogany bodied LP Custom style guitar; wouldn't they be even brighter in a thinner bodied Mahogany V?

Vs are all solid mahogany, no maple top.

Les Pauls are generally chambered and have a maple top.

Also, the amount of wood behind the bridge tends to give more bass.  This is most evident on Explorers but is also evident on Vs.

This isn't the best video, but it's interesting that he chose the Flying V for the Rebel Yell (just as he chose an SG for the C-Pig).

I've tried an A bomb in ash and it was amazing but it was awful in alder. The ash was swamp ash with a maple top and full maple neck.  For what you 're describing, check out the vintage hot buckers. If not I think the crawler would fit the ash perfect.

Thanks for the info, I hadn't thought of it in that respect to be honest. My LP Custom type is a MIJ Tokai Love Rock so it has a Rosewood fretboard, not Ebony like a Custom, and I'm also not sure on it's chambering or Maple cap either.

I know I'm really not a fan of the RYs in the Tokai, so they're defo coming out, but where they and the NBs end up is still open to negotiation  :lol:

I think I'll have to try the bridge NB from my Ibanez in the Srat and then decide if the V gets RYs or CS's from there.
