MM, Trilogy and Cold Sweat

Just wondering what you folks think of this as an HSH setup?

I wanted a mixture of tones from my pickups, ranging from a lovely warm clean channel to screaming metal. This is the setup I was recommended and I was wondering what other people think of this. I need to be sure before commiting myself to the best part of £250.

What kind of sounds are you looking for in particular? (bands? songs?)

I play a lot of Metallica, with other favourites including Sabbath, Foos, AC/DC, Soundgarden, Audioslave, Rage etc

I have an Epi Les Paul with Seymours in and I want my Ibanez RG to give me a much heavier sound similar to what I could get from an EMG 60, SA, 81 setup.

Yeah, its MM bridge, Cold Sweat Neck. From what Ive heard, this will give me the palette of tones Im looking for.

I've heard some people say that the MM is the better neck pickup for cleans, while the CS si better for overdriven lead/shred in the neck, but I haven't tried either...

If, as some say, the MM is better for a neck pickup when clean, what is the best as a bridge? Is the Nailbomb a better option along with an MM?

It was Tim that recommended the Cold Sweat, Trilogy, MM setup. This is the problem, I cant afford to pick and choose my setup, aslong as it is vertsatile and gives me the ranges I require I am happy.

cant help you on pickup choice but i would say H-S-H is a great combination... comparing say two guitars which i find VERY similar- (a washburn H-S-S and an Ibanez JEM H-S-H) the ibanez has more variety, beef, and warmth.... and its not the JEM itself doing it- i actually prefer the washburn for everything other than the actual sound..... just my opinion.... probably doesnt reflect the physics/logic of things at all but thats my experience....

having said all that, H-S-S still gives you a massive variety anyway, and that example is probably useless.....  dunno where im going with this.....

I'd go with Tim's recommendations, it's a safe bet you'll get the tones you want with that setup.  :)

i use

MM, Irish Tour, VHII as HSH..

great combo and if tim says that combo is the way forward he's usually right. I found mine through trial and error i guess.
