EVH 5150III 50 watt question.
« on: December 23, 2014, 06:42:24 PM »
When do the actual tubes start to shine and "push"? In other words, at what volume or settings?
Also, I have been putting an EP booster through the effects loop to give the tubes no the pre amp tubes more push at lower volumes and it sounds great.
Im not that experienced with the "nitty gritty" of amps..so if what I am saying is complete BS, please inform me so I don't sound like an idiot. But if it isn't, shed more light on this subject for me.
Thank you
Keep it evil

Poweramp tubesaturation depends on the design of the amp. My Rockerverb 50 starts really to sing with the master past 12.00 o'clock. It gets pretty loud then.

You wont really get much poweramp saturation with that amp. its about 99% preamp gain.

Can you back up that rationale?

Is a modern amp that is designed to get its gain from the preamp whilst keeping the power amp clean so the low end doesn't break up and get to lose.

The only thing you will achieve by creaking it is speaker breakup
