HB sized P90 to pair with Apache
« on: April 12, 2015, 07:02:27 PM »
Changing pickups around on my starts.
I have some spare Texas specials that will replace
Some Apaches that are currently paired with a Mule.

My other 90s stock american standard will get the Apaches but
I want to stick an HB sized P90 in the bridge.

But which one, essentially want to go from twang to TWANG
At the flick of a switch

Blue Note, or if you want more raw power Nantucket.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I agree as usual. The blue note will be sweeter due to the magnet while the nantucket will deliver more edge. With apache I am inclined to steer towards the blue note, but that is me. Depends on how much of a step you aim for. P90s always are surprisingly powerful (yet open), so both will deliver a good step in their own way.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

I think with the glassy qualities of the Apache, the Blue Note would be a happier partner. The Nantucket is a fiery beast and think might be a bit too aggressive to go along with the Apache.

Out of interest, is it a maple or rosewood boarded Strat? If it's rosewood I'd think the Nantucket might work.

is the nantucket going to be too edgy and agressive to clean up on a clean amp setting?

Generally no. It is perhaps the gold standard P90 type. Thing is that with the controlls on full it can scream. If you use the vol and tone controll however, it can easily sing in just as special a way as it can scream. That is the beauty of P90s. While it can keep up with Muse type distortion it can also do wonderful cleans when rolled down a tad. The versatility is amazing if you know how to use it.

If low gain is your absolute focus and guitar controlls are not that much your thing the blue note is a saver bet. From clean to classic rock it is amazing. The Nantucket however can take you a good bit further into gain without loosing much, if you use the controlls. Which is something that is amazing to learn if you donīt already.

Blue note is specialized and natucket is more versatile.

Cheers guys, strat is a rosewood board strat.

Not looking for aggressive tones, so looks like it's the bluenote for me
