Strat hss duluxe VH II + Irish = Vai + funk blues shred?
« on: November 03, 2015, 09:59:22 PM »
Anyone have an alder strat  usa deluxe 2013 rosewood fret board with VHII humbucker and Irish single neck?

If so,  what's it sound like?

Would it give me funk blues on the neck lighting up a little as I crank it up and then a tight crisp Vai on the bridge for melodic shreddery?

This was the combo BKP tech team advised but I wondered if anyone already had this combo or similar guitar with it.

Thanks

I think they're spot on. I have a VHII in an ash strat, and Irish Tours in a swampash strat.
The neckpickup is great. Clean it does the Daft Punk Get Lucky sound very well, but with gain it screams like Stevie Ray.
The VHII is very dynamic and noncompressed, you can steer it with your pickattack. The topend is prominent, but not shrill. The mids are happening and it has really good and tight bass for a vintagehot pickup.

Miracle Man is what BKP suggest for Vai tones
BKP: Abraxas - Les Paul
Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul
Warpig - Caparison Horus

The Miracle Man would not balance nice with Irish Tours I'm afraid. The VHII has quite some output for a vintagehotpickup, nearly on par with my Crawler.

I have vhii neck paired with IT mid  in an Rg550 and yes it hits the biscuit.
Not necessarily comparable with an evo loaded jem which obviously will get you that Vai sound,
but will be awesome for what yoh described.
Search my posts because im sure i did a vid.
If not just sayand i will.

The arrived looking like tasty world's of art. Although I was surprised they weren't etched with BKP on the bobbins.   I fitted them myself with little trouble thanks to wiring diagrams in this site.

In short I really liked them,  they are brighter for sure.   I feel they have more expression in them than my N3 singles and the seymour duncan TB5 I had in there before.   I needed to add more mids and a bit more gain on my pedal board to get the dirt I wanted.  I noted the treble seems to fall off quite rapidly when I roll off the volume pot which I didn't notice with the old pups maybe because they were darker to start with.  Early days yet and yet to gig with them.

In case you're interested I recorded this song with these pup this week.   I know it's the wrong section but it's kinda relevant here lol

Fiddle with the height to find the sweet spots. Scatterwounds are sensitive for the right height. Every tweak makes a difference. Besides that, BKP stay clear with a lot of gain. Compared to Duncans or Dimarzio's they seem to 'eat' a little gain, due to the enormous clarity. You've got to get used to that and most of the time tweak the amps eq a bit, like you did.

Glad you like them!

I have the same combo in a american standard (ash); VhII bridge and irish tour (m&n). I'm more than happy with the VhII in the bridge. It covers perfectly blues/rock to heavier rock even metal if pushed. I love the Satriani lead tone (Always with me, always with you) you can get from this pickup. Irish Tour were recommended to keep classic mid&neck strat tones with some more push. And that's exactly what they do, though I have to recognize that in this guitar the pickup selector seldom moves away from bridge position.
This combo was the last chance for this guitar. I loved the neck and playability but never felt at home with it plugged. Now it is a winner.
