BKP single coils most similar to Suhr V60LPs?
« on: December 12, 2015, 02:51:07 AM »
Heyhey! I am a Gibson man by heart and soul, but I have always liked the beautiful clean tones of a nice strat. The Suhr Classic S I was stupid enough to trade away had a set of the best single coils I have ever tried: V60LPs. They never sounded brittle or icepicky, very balanced with a smooth top end. I thought about ordering a set for my new Classic Player strat, but with these days' strong dollar they are actually more expensive than a set of BKPs... I assume that there is an equivalent in the BKP range? My immediate thought was either the Irish Tours or Slow Hands, what do you guys think? Any experience with the V60LPs?
BKs: Black Dog (b), Riff Raff (b), HSP90 Nantucket (b).

Unfortunately I have no experience of the pickups you are trying to find something similar to however I do have a set of slowhands in a Japanese Strat. They are warm and balanced with a lovely clear tone . Very nice indeed and excellent for getting those lovely clean strat tones that we all love. I also have a set of Apaches and they are, to me, a little warmer though the Slowhands are ever so slightly more "middy" . If I had to chose between them I'd probably say Apaches but it is very close.
I've had both sets for years-whilst, like everyone else, I love trying new stuff and am always thinking about trying something else just for the sake of it, I must say that I have never been inclined to swap these pickups for something else. Indeed, I played in a  little country pub  last night with my band and took my Apache Strat and I was digging the tones in a big way. Pretty vague  I like em" post so feel free to ignore-hopefully someone with some of the knowledge you need will be able to comment.

Thank you for your answer! Judging from the description of the Apache it looks like it would be close to the stock pickups of the Classic Player. They are called 57/62 and "Apache single coils are based on the rounder, fatter tones of the original '54 to '57 coils" as the BKP site states. The Slow Hands are more for me, with the boosted mids they will most likely sound more muscular than strat single coils that I have always found quite weak sounding. However: quite unrelated, but since BKP offered the Cobra in white I have been very intrigued by those as well... I have seen people raving about their versatility, maybe someone of you have experience with them?

Cobra's sound very modern. The eq is quite scooped. I have Irish Tours, which are overwound Mother's Milk. I think you want Slowhands. I would say the Suhr LP V60's sit between the Irish Tours and the Slowhands in terms of voicing.
