Electronics Question
« on: July 14, 2016, 07:05:24 PM »
Ok,

So I am going to buy an Agile 8-string (can't decide the model yet but have the cash in hand) and I plan to put in a Nailbomb bridge/Coldsweat neck combo. My questions are as follows, the website says the pots are already 500k so is it really necessary to get the 550k pots from here as well? And with the capacitor, what is the difference between the .015 & the .022? Like which one should I get & why?

I put a set of Juggernauts in my Jackson 7 and I replaced the volume & tone pots (push pull for coil tap) and I installed the .022 cap. I want to be honest, I only got the .022 because that's what was in the wiring diagram. I know nothing of the electronics, but the Jackson sounds awesome, lol.

Any help?

The 0.015 will give you more top end than the 0.022

Personally if you have 500K pots I would just install the pickups and see how you like them.  550K is not a huge difference.  The real issue is the 300K volume pots used in many Gibson models

Ok, so with a mahogany body, what do you think I should do with the capacitor? Do I even need to get one? I'm not sure what the Agile will have in it.

There will be some kind of capacitor in there already ... I would just install the pickups, and while you are doing so get a clear idea of what you have in there at the moment.  If when you have them installed there is an area that you think can be improved post again and tell us what is currently in there and how you would like it to sound different.  From that baseline we should be able to advise.

BKP only offer a certain range of pots and caps.  While they are good, I would try to work out what you need first before ordering anything.  It might be the case that you have to order from them again and pay more postage, or you might be able to find suitable alternatives closer to home.  It's a better idea than ordering stuff that you might need.

Well, I opted out & bought an Ibanez TAM10 (Tosin Abasi signature for those who don't know).

I got a pretty good deal on it on Reverb.com so I just pulled the trigger. It has a H-S-H PLUS a coil tap switch and a 5-way selector. With all of those options in the guitar stock for the price I got ($700 US plus $35 US shipping) I just couldn't refuse. From what I hear the Dimarzio Ionizer 8 pickups are pretty good BUT, we will see about that. But getting this range of guitar for almost half price (its a 2014 model) was a deal I couldn't refuse. If I feel the need to upgrade later I can sell my Elevenrack to buy some BKP's since I don't use it.
