Hey, given that I enjoy raw tones with tonnes of definition, the prevailing consensus and a few YouTube clips collectively suggesting that open-coils will please me slightly more, have put me off pickup covers.
That said, I'm not particularly happy with the two shiny, rounded lumps of plastic wrapped together with ribbon solution that all pickup manufacturers provide, in terms of aesthetics and the way they collect dust.
I like the way PRS have tried to make open-coils look a little sexier, by going rectangular and with a matt finish.

BKP's offering of black poles on some pickups does help a little, but I still think some compromise between smart and raw tone could be achieved.
What do you guys think of Schaller's open-covers?

They look smart, would cover the ribbon/sides and rounded ends - and come in some great finishes.
Would these likely affect tone?
If not, what is it exactly that does affect the tone when you go full covers? Is it having the second-row of poles covered over? If so, would metal covers with 12 holes leave tone unaffected?
Starting from 'uncovered' and going through, 'open covers', 'filtertron covers', '12-hole covers' to '6-hole covers', at what point does the slight loss in rawness and high-end occur?
Thanks
