Humbucker-sized P90 question
« on: October 24, 2016, 03:36:41 AM »
So I am formulating my next build, and I am almost certain that I want something with P90s...somewhere between an SG and a Jazzmaster. I am thinking warmer tonewoods; black limba neck and body, macassar ebony top, ebony board, bolt-on, 25.5" scale. I would be using it for post-punky, Johnny Marr-like arpeggios into more distorted realms. Any recommendations? I was thinking a set of Mississippi Queens or some manner of Stockholm/Supermassive combination.

Thanks,
Alec

I have the Mississippi Queens in a PRS Standard 22. I haven't used the Stockholms or Supermassives. The MQs are amazing. They sound great clean and keep that great tone with any amount of gain that I've tried. I don't play your style, but I'm confident the MQs would work for any distorted P90 style.

Don't rule out the lower-output options either. I remember a shred demo Nolly recorded with the Manhattans that was outstanding.

For Johnny Mar-esque sounds I would keep it vintage: Nantuckets or MQ's.
