Pretty rare for me to do this but... NGD!
« on: February 11, 2017, 05:48:11 PM »
Traded in some never-used pedals two guitar-shaped dust-gatherers and my Agile (everyday guitar) for a new everyday guitar. Ibanez FRIX6FEAH.

I fell in love with this guitar two months ago when I first tried it. I'm not a fan of the pups or the novelty kill-switch toggle, but I just "get on" with the guitar itself. It feels lovely, and the aesthetics are right up my street!

I think I'd like to swap the bridge pup out for a Painkiller and the neck for a Cold Sweat, then turn the kill-switch into a coil-tap toggle instead (one of the other Iron Label RGs in the range has a coil tap toggle, just wish they'd put it on this model, too). At some point I'd like to also replace the Gibraltar bridge with a Hipshot replacement, because the Gibraltar ones just look a bit untidy, almost "unfinished", like they need some kind of top-piece to hide the screws and the overall ugly design. Would make the overall look more stealthy, too.

I've basically got rid of a bunch of stuff, freed up some space in my cupboards and dining room floor-space, got rid of an everyday axe that I didn't really get on with too well and condensed it into this gorgeous guitar.

Yeah I'm much more into my "sleeper" shapes these days. Understated, stealthy.

The finish on that guitar is rather amazing! Congratulations on the new guitar :)

Yeah I'm loving some of the Ibanez finishes at the moment. Never a dull moment in their design shop it would seem! Thanks dude. :)

Really like that, kind of a modern take on the tele shape. I really wish I got on better with thinner wide necks as I'd love a satin finish hardtail ibanez, the RG421 looks great in satin black!

Nice one. Not really my thing, but I've just been reading up on them and looking at other pics online - they do look a bit gorgeous.

Cheers guys! She is a beauty for sure. I've got a set of templates for a tele, but I'm going to change the body shape to match the Ibby profile and have a go at carving a wizard neck profile while I'm at it. On off-cuts and shoddy wood for now just to practice, of course, but with a view to building an Ibby clone with the old burnt turquoise finish they had on the Jems about 16 years ago-ish.... this one:

This body shape has really inspired me to finally get on with building an axe from scratch.  :azn:
