It won't sound as bright in an Explorer and the Explorer will provide the bottom end the RY needs.  The Nailbomb might be a little dark for your needs.  The RY is a very tight pickup and in an Explorer should sound killer for Metallica.

Rebel Yell is a dream in a low mid focused guitar like an Explorer.  I have it in a solid lump of mahogany and it is killer.
