Combinations with Painkiller (Mahogony Ibanez RGA121)
« on: October 30, 2017, 03:36:29 PM »
Hey folks,

I finally got a good tube amp to use and I absolutely love the sound of my BKP pickups in my guitars! I'm especially very, very fond of my Painkillers I have in my Ibanez RG Prestige (Basswood body).

I have an RGA121 (Mahogany) that has Dimarzio X2N in the bridge, and tonezone in the neck. I wanted to get a BKP setup that has a similar tone (Beefy neck tones, and gritty bridge). Although I love my painkiller setup in my other guitar, I wanted to maintain the nature of the tone I have in my Mahogony Ibanez. The painkillers don't have that low-mid warmth that I want to maintain. The way I describe it is that the painkiller sounds more cold, and less brown.

With all that considered, I was wondering what my best option would be for my mahogany Ibanez. Although the C-pic seems right up my alley in terms of still having a very aggressive sound like the painkiller and sounds more "brown", less cold, etc. I think the lows in the C-pig would sound too dark in my mahogany guitar. In fact, the reason why I want to change my current setup is because  my tube amp made me realize how dark my mahogany ibanez sounds.

Would a painkiller in the bridge and C-pig in the neck be a good option?

how about the new ragnarok model?
sounds like a beefier alternative to the painkiller
that and a miracle man for the neck

Wow, that combo definitely seems like something that'll give me a similar flavor to my current setup, but with that BKP tone i'm looking for.

To be honest, the ragnarok sound files blew me away. I'm highly considering replacing one of my painkillers on my basswood Ibanez to balance things out, or just replace them both. The painkiller sounds great in the neck of my basswood Ibanez, but the bridge seems to be a bit djenty if that makes any sense.

Yeah, the painkiller used to be the djentlemen's favorite, along with the c-bomb, before they came up with the aftermath, Blackhawk and juggernaut

I appreciate all the help my man. Do you think there is a difference between covered vs uncovered pickups for the miracle man at the neck?

Also,

I've done some research and I was curious of the alcino MM or even an alcino Warpig would be a good Tone-zone equivalent for the neck

The Warpig and Miracle Man neck pickups only come with Alnico 5 magnets

From what I can tell they are pretty similar to one another except for the screws

I just ordered my new BKPs last Sunday, MM set this time as Miracle Man bridge is my favorite pickup so far, was curious about the MM neck. Will be able to tell more and compare MM neck to my other neck models very shortly.
