Mule Neck Pickup - The Bass is strong with this one

I moved from an Abraxas to the lower powered Mule set up in my Les Paul Traditional. I've found that the bass response on the Mule neck is stronger than it was with the Abraxas neck. It's not mushy mind you, but it's pretty loud and is a noticeable difference between the bridge position, to the point I have to adjust and soften my playing to accommodate it. Is that right for this set of pickups? I keep hearing they're very balanced. The highs are definitely right where I want them. It's just the neck position and the lows I'm struggling to blend and adjust to.

Have you already tried lowering the pickup on the bass side?

I felt it was pretty low, maybe 8/64ths niche when depressed? My bridge is 5.5/64ths inch when depressed on the final string. I certainly can go that route. Usually this formula has worked well for my Les Pauls though.

It's worth a try. If it sounds worse you can always put it back.

Turns out it was a bit higher than I thought. I bumped it back closer to 8/64ths on the neck/bass side and it made a difference. The Mule neck is definitely not woofy. Just bolder than I was used to in the neck. This one definitely needs to sit closer to the humbucker ring.

Mules are still my fav low output humbuckers. I would like to try a set of Stormies, just need a proper guitar for them.

I just put a Riff Raff in the bridge and a Mule in the neck of my Les Paul Studio. They're about the same distance from the string with the last fret pressed down. I don't find the bass to be overly loud. Mind you, I moved from a 498T/490R where the 490R in the neck was just overpowering the low end with mud.

So far, I'm head over heels in love with the Riff Raff/Mule combo.
