Uprgrading a Cheap $99 Monoprice Indio Strat or Squier Bullet?

Anyone have any experience upgrading a cheap strat like the Monoprice Indio? Or a cheap Squier Bullet?
 
I'm thinking to buy one and upgrade a few parts and put some BK strat pickups in it.

I have a very limited budget (hence the cheap base), but I'd like to build something that can be somewhat versatile (I'll be using this for surf rock, buddy guy/Clapton style blues, SRV style blues, and Jimi Hendrix' sound)

What kind of BK strat pickups would have this sort of sound range?
And is it ridiculous to put them into such a cheap guitar?

Yeah it is a bit ridiculous.

Maybe if you know someone who is upgrading a Strat to BKPs and they have better pickups than you have now buy those.

If you're going to buy a Squier I would look for a Classic Vibe or one of the other better ones.

You might be better of buying a Cort.  They make all the best Squiers anyway.

I got a used Mexican strat and put a Mother's Milk set in it.

A MIM strat is a serious guitar. I would not call that a cheapo. The ceramic pickups in the older version are often replaced by more vintage sounding single coils, like you did.
