Emerald set thoughts....
« on: July 06, 2022, 03:43:23 AM »
Had this set fitted into a 2021 Gibson Les Paul 50's standard Gold Top recently. I was looking for a slightly hotter, richer, low output pup
as an alternative to the Gibson stock BB 2 (bridge) and BB 1 (neck) To be fair, the stock pups actually sound pretty good and the build quality of the new Gibson's is superb! That said, I love the Bare Knuckle sound and wanted to try a set I haven't played yet. Currently using Rebel Yell, Holy Diver and Abomb sets. Enter the EMERALD set! Ive played 3 or 4 gigs now and Ive gotta say its a sweet pickup set for sure! A bit warmer than the stock Gibson pups, maybe a little less punchy but sweeter. I wont get into the technical aspects because Im not sure how well I can articulate what goes into these pups but I can say that the solos sing and chords are sweet. This is indeed a great set for classic rock stuff. There's a smoothness compared to the stock pups. Cleans up nicely but growls properly when needed. I do 70's and 80's hard rock and hair metal styles and these pups sound great. Glad I gave them a try! Highly underrated. Thanks Tim!

I've a set now in a '85 mij tokai les paul and it's a perfect rock setup. My bridge is bang on 13 ohm, so it's getting into slightly hot territory. But spot on for thin lizzy, GNR etc.
It doesn't do metal though, because the pup gets super compressed and unusable with a lot of gain, but keep the gain lowish and its sweet for all rock styles.
BKP: Abraxas - Les Paul
Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul
Warpig - Caparison Horus
