VHII set in a Les Paul?
« on: October 02, 2023, 02:37:43 PM »
I recently purchased a set of Mules for my Les Paul Standard but I now realize I should have gone "hotter".  I listened to sound clips and, for gainy stuff, I really prefer the VHII's.  Has anyone here tried them in a Les Paul?  Opinions?

VHIIs certainly will work in a Les Paul, although, they do have a fairly flat midrange which is aimed a bit more towards the more brash mids of a 25.5" scale guitar, so they're not going to really bring out the core character of a classic LP's natural voice, which I guess is really why a lot of people enjoy a more honky / nasal pickup, which will tend to bring out those key qualities of a Lp or a Gibson scale length guitar in general. However, if you're looking to either smooth out a particularly spikey-sounding LP, or bring a little more high end cut to a particularly dark one, then It's a perfectly sensible choice.
