Abraxas love?
« on: October 03, 2024, 07:20:07 PM »
It is hard to find any clips showing what the Abraxas can do on higher gain settings. I am considering putting one in a 59 reissue Les Paul. Currently has a VHII in it where I changed the magnet to an Alnico II and it brought the pickup to life for me, by adding a stronger midrange. For some reason the mids sounded very recessed to me with the Alnico 5. I do prefer lower gain pickups into higher gain amps as I think it gives you more of the sound of the guitar as opposed to the sound of the pickups. So any experience with the Abraxas would be appreciated.

What kind of high gain style are you thinking - just something more saturated, or full-on metal tones?

The demo that John Huldt made for this set goes into the more saturated sounds (particularly leads) but not really aggressive metal tones, that's on YouTube (and linked on the Abraxas product page on the website) if you didn't already check it out

Yes. That was an excellent demo and very tasty. I am just surprised there isn't more out there.
