Laney: VH100R vs. GH50L
« on: January 03, 2007, 09:39:08 PM »
The VH100R is complete with matching 4x12, and is in a custom white finish... laney only ever made two, for a cover band in the UK. £495 for both.
The GH50L is Twinfan's! £275, head only.
Help me choose!
cheers

Let's say I'd appreciate one, but clean playing is not my main style...

go for the GH50L then, the footswitch lets you have a clean channel if you roll down the guitar volume with it.

If I was after a new amp, I'd go for the GH50. Single channel amps are more than a one trick pony... ;)

I'd say get the custom VH100R. You'll have something unique and have alot of tonal range.

To be serious, I must admit the VH100R sounds like a good deal.  What speakers are in the cab?  Is everything in good nick?

I would go for the custom VH100R, again its unique. Just depends on your budget. ITs bloody cheap though for a custom one

The amp itself is normal... just the tolex that is different! I emailed both the shop and Laney and both of them said 2 were manufactured for a Status Quo cover band, called Quid Pro Quo or something like that. I don't think I can pass it up. The head and cab have minor cosmetic scuffles etc, no major rips in the cloth. The cab is the Laney match for the VH100R, 4x12 "Custom Celestions"... might have to eventually sell for a 2x12 with Vintage 30s! The tubes apparently are not new, but still have plenty of life in em.

Unrelated side note: It's my birthday today! :o

happy birthday, Laney dude! so, your also a fan of Laney's distortion?

hmmm, it depends which. if you don't really do clean, then the GH50L is your best bet as it is simpler and much cheaper than the VH100R, im getting a GH50L sometime in the future because of those reasons, and of course the crushing distortion!
if you want a clean channel and a hell of a load of versatility, go for the VH100R, but as i said, if you want it simple, get the GH50L. plus if you bought the GH50L, you would have a lot of extra cash for something cool like some BKPs =)

I went for the VH>
And BloodMountain, actually they would have ended up at around the same price, as the VH came with cab and the GH didn't!
