Hey there,

I've been planning on building a rack for while now. I think I've settled on which Pre-amps and poweramp I want, but I'm still looking into effect processors.
I've come across an old Profex for a really good price (£145), but was wondering if it's worth it and if anyone here has used one before.

Cheers,
Tom

I would say to check harmony central, but peavey gear is always horribly over-rated on there, mainly cos' yanks get it cheap...

I wouldn't swap the cat for a profex myself. Never been that keen. They sound very much like digital effects, if you get my meaning. You could maybe try looking for an old Alesis Quadraverb on evilBay. They're a great unit, and older ones can be picked up for around that much...

Hmm, thanks alot.
I had already checked out Harmony Central and you could be right about the Peavey hype.

Actually the guy I may buy this off also had an add for a Quadraverb, can't remember how much though, I'll have to ring later.

I bought a couple of Alesis Nanoverbs on Evilbay really cheap. Not the best units in the world but way better than the built in reverb on the P A amp we use in the band. I think altogether I paid £80.00 overall-one was an accidental purchase- where I'd bid on 2 expecting to get one and got both   but in fact I leave one set up at home for monitering when recording and the other goes out live. I think that Alesis reverbs are pretty good for the money.

I always thought the 'verb on the Nanoverb was quite good!

If it's basic verb/delay/moluation you're looking for, a used Lexicon LXP-1 would also be a GREAT unit at an affordable price.

Thanks for the input.

I'll see if I can try out the Profex and Quadraverb ASAP. I'm leaning towards the Profex still because is has all the effects I'm ever likely to use and I can get them in any order.

I should point out that I plan on using this for both bass and guitar, coupling it with an Ampeg SVP-CL and either a JMP-1 or Engl e530.

Beatle:

I used to get a lot of use out of a couple of nanoverbs using a/b boxes to run them like stompers. They're a nice wee unit for the money alright. These days I'm more of a naked guitar kind of guy, though.

I totally agree- I am not a fan of f/x but I play in a covers band and it is kinda expected that you cover a lot of ground so f/x tend to be the way to achieve that. I have used the nano like you with just the amp but your idea of a/b ing is a good one.I found that it can thicken up the sound quite nicely- I like just-about-breaking-up clean tones and the nano reverb is , to my ears, better than a lot of built in reverbs. Slightly hijacked the thread but I would reiterate what I said earlier about Alesis reverbsand as TO said, Lexicon too are pretty good value.
