I got my mules in the post this morning, but I can't remember specifying over the phone which magnets I wanted when I ordered. What are they as standard?

AIV is standard i think.

The Mule is becoming one of my favorite BKP models. Handles the super gain thing no problem and has a clean tone that is so beautiful it brings me to tears. PDT_041

I ordered a set of Stormy Mondays and received a card with warranty informations and an installation guide along with the pickups. The card also contained the specifications, i. e. DC and magnet types, of both the bridge and the neck pickup...

I haven't actually seen them yet, had them delivered to a relative as I was going to be in work when they arrived. Good to know the info is there though.

:D The Mules are a great allrounder, if your unsure of what type of P/U`s to get then allways start with a set of Mules. They can handle anything you can throw at `em !!

Oh yer & mine are A IV as well

I don't think Tim uses Alnico II in the Mules unless you specifically ask for it.

Full jimmy page suite - individual taps, in/out of phase, and both in series.

I've got that setup already with the Duncan Alnico 2 pro's in there right now, so it shouldn't be too hard to fit. It'll be a good excuse to clean up my messy wiring job too.

The APH's are nice tapped, but are a little weedy. I have great hopes for the mules though. :D

Blimey. And I thought I was nuts going for 9 options (series, parallel, tapped times the three pickup positions). I had to work out the wiring diagram for myself, so I had no guarantees that it would work, but thankfully it did.

With hindsight, I'd skip the "humbuckers in parallel" option. Now I know why nobody wires humbuckers this way - they sound like single coils, but with all of the nice treble detail sucked out.

Of course, I could re-wire that position on the rotary switch to something else ...

Luckily the JP scheme is all over the net in its various guises, plus my tech laid a lot of the groundwork with a sililar scheme minus the series option in my old epiphone, so it wasn't hard to work out what I had to do. 22 possible combinations in there now, and which ones do I use most? That's right, neck middle and bridge. :lol:

There's some great sounds in there if you tinker though; I wouldn't go back to stock even though it would probably improve the basic sound. There's something about the les paul that demands extravagance. 8)

Interesting that you should say that about your parallel option. Most people I speak to seem to prefer parallel for singl coil sounds because of the lack of hum. I only went with tapped rather than parallel because it worked better with my other switching options and I could use CTS push-pull pots with it. Having said that, I've never actually heard a parallel hummer so just ignore me

Well, I've put them in my les paul and, luckily, they worked first time!

They're everything I hoped for - rich and lively, far more representative of the unplugged character of the guitar. The neck is smooth and defined, the bridge really has the kick I was looking for without losing clarity. Coil tapped and out of phase they sound absolutely delicious.

This is all based on playing through a v-amp while tinkering with relative heights. I haven't even plugged into the Cornford yet. Why am I still here?
