Hi Guys,

I was wondering what's the best thing to get someone to sign a guitar with so that it doesn't rub off over time? I'm going to a meet and greet after Satriani's gig in Newcastle and I'm thinking about taking my guitar to see if he'll sign it. But I think that even permanant marker or something would rub off over time wouldn't it? ...oh, and the guitar is black - so i'd probably need a white marker which makes it even more difficult...

any ideas :?:

silver or gold marker

do you want it to be on the top? or do you want a sig for te guitar?

i suggest, if it has a trem, you get the trem cover and have him sign that for you.

for a permanent sig on the axe, you need to clearcoat it afterwards

You need to find out what paint will be ok to cover the signature as some will disssolve the signature.

Get the tremolo cover signed andf keep it safe when you play (get a spare one) and then you will have it in pristine condition for showing your mates

Ibanez guitars WITHOUT Vai or Satch's signature are becoming rare now :roll:

I reckon that Vai wonders why other rock stars get to sign girl's boobs and guitar heroes just get to sign guitars

Put some more clear varnish over the top, then polish that up. Should seal it in and it'd blend perfectly.

Thanks guys! That idea about getting him to sign the trem cover is a great idea! It doesn't have a trem cover yet as I just put it together from Warmoth parts and never bothered with the trem cover yet, but I could get one tomorrow to put on and that would save me carrying the guitar around the gig too!!

It would be nice to get the actual back of the body signed though, but getting it varnished again to protect it sounds like a bit of work... I guess I need to decide whether it's worth the extra hassle over just taking the trem cover...

he should have chosen a diferent style then ;)

i forgot to take my trem plate with me when i had backstage tickets, so i only got a signed laminate and booklet.

HAHAHAHaa...

I have a signed Vai & Satriani RG570...

I could at this point tell a really great story about how I left my RG570 with certain luthier for a fret dress...

He did a fabulous job of cleaning up the frets and cleaning off Vai's signature!! PDT_044

It's lucky I smoke so damn much as the wood is darker around where the sig used to be. So there is still a kind of shadow signature on the back of the headstock PDT_015

I could name the luthier in question but I'm not telling tales.. PDT_048

how about on the front/back of the headstock? chances are it wont wear off and will look like some cool signature model

Er yes - sorry about that - forgot to tell Chris about the signature and he was holding the headstock while he worked on the frets and wondered why his hand was getting black - only told me about it when you came in to collect the guitar- major embarrassment

But the "Ghost signature" is way cool!!

dave, just tell anyone that asks why the sig is rubbed off, that you didnt want to have a sig of a newbie on your guitar cos it diminishes your playing skills when you take a glance at the headstock (though you better have massive chops ready to let lose haha)

I kinda like it more as the guitar is more of a tool than a display item.
