Pickup choice for my Gibson Explorer
« on: July 22, 2006, 08:39:09 PM »
Evening everyone!

I have a quick question for you all, Im in search for a new bridge pickup, Im currently using a pair of calibrated VHII's, tho they are great i want something with more bite in the bridge. And as my guitar is made of mahogny i want to tighten up the low end of it (bass). I have listened to both MM and NB and they are both sounding great, but im having trouble deciding  :?

So now im turning to you my fellow BKP's, what pickup do you reckon would satisfy my needs? I play everything from the 80's up to today's music. (heavier music that is) and a bit of blues in between. Im not sure if i wanna change my neck pu (VHII) because that one really makes some incredible blues sound.

Oh i forgot to mention, I have been checking both NB's and MM's, but I hear there is a new pickup coming soon, ooooh the agony of not knowing what to do  :?

Hope I will hear from you soon  8)

Have a nice weekend!

//Daniel

Hehe Dakine, the thing is that i have had a set of calibrated Warpigs in my explorer, but i dont really play that hard music that those pup's are best suited for

The thing I want is a pickup that tightens up my bottom a bit, and with a bit more aggression

Anyway, thanks for your replies mate's. Tim said that MM's should do the trick and I have no reason to doubt him

But anyway, I wanted others oppinion aswell, so shoot away fellows  :D

Thanks in advance

Fair enuff, although the Custom (opposed to normal) 'pigs seem great to me (have both).
That said, my next set (when get another guitar here from Texas, darn move etc.) will be Miracle Man (less Painkiller is out by then).

well, you have vh2s at the moment, which suggests you like to have things more traditional and a little understated... so what about the cold sweat?

Well gwEm, the thing is that i want a more heavy metal/metal/hard rock oriented pickup in the bridge position now. And i think im going for the MM as i really like the sound of it on most of the clips posted on this forum in the players section.

But thanks for your suggestion  :)

Have a nice day everyone!

I would say, go with a Cold Sweat or Miracle Man. Cold Sweat has more of a vintage vibe, the Miracle Man is tighter with more bite.

Miracle Man sounds good. I can't wait to get my guitar from the shop...Miracle Man and Cold Sweat neck have been dropped in. I was going to reccomend the Rebel Yell, but you probably have made the best choice if you want a great Metal/Hard Rock pickup...though the Nailbomb is EXCELLENT as well. But, I don't want to sway you and throw a monkey wrench into your plans...but I think the Miracle Man will do the trick if Tim says so. The guy knows his stuff!
