500k or 250k pots?
« on: August 25, 2006, 04:17:18 AM »
Ok, this is something I have been thinking of asking someone for a while:

I'm changing the pickups on my HSS strat to a nailbomb and 2 trilogies. I was planning on putting in 500k pots for better distortion, but then I wondered if that would wreck the 'true' clean strat tone of the trilogies...
That would suck, coz i want this to be an everything-in-one machine.

Any comments or advice is very welcome.  :D:D:D:D:D:D

there was a wiring schematic going round here a while back where you have a 500k pot and switch in a 500k resistor in parallel with the pot for single coil tones.  this effectively gives you a 250k pot.

A good idea
Although you will probably find that the Trillies like the 500k better too as they are quite a high DC resistance much like the humbucker and will benefit from the reduced high end loss that the 500k  pot gives compared to the 250k one
