to get the sweet spot is NOT easy, you basically have to position the microphone on your amplifier in EXACTLY the right spot, what I often do is make minor adjustments to the mic position, whilst listening to the sound through headphones until I'm happy. This normally takes a while, but it's well worth it! once achieved. I recommend the shure SM57 mic for the job, it's a classic!
